    Idiot-Proof Rabbit Nest Box Plans?

I have to say I like the idea of using the metal window screen for the bottom as well as the cup hooks on the back to keep it from shifting around. But admittedly I would still put in a couple shorter screws on the front corners to keep it from being shifted left and right by the momma's. I am...

Aviodont, yes, that depression in the floor is what I mean by hanging nest box. It is made entirely out of the .5" x 1" floor wire. I ended up surrounding the entire rabbitry in the 1" mesh chicken wire. Including giving myself a false ceiling with the wire. I also added 2"x6" boards around the...

Oh I know they are not on my side as they do not consider rabbits as livestock. But if I was having issues with bobcats, Lynx, or even coyotes I could do something about them and they would be on my side. But alas that won't happen as the ranchers keep those in check long before they get into...

The flash tape would be an emergency option and not very effective as I have neighbors with it up to try and keep their chickens safe. As I have the chicken wire on hand we are going to start with that. We are also going to be purchasing an entire roll of shade cloth to cover the upper portion...

The birds can only get their beaks through the wire as it is 1" x 1" spacing on the sides. The cages are secured enough that the birds cannot get into them anymore. That was a problem the first year when I took them out of the colony and set them up in cages. The mesh on the roof of the cage was...

    New Rabbit... Name?

My original meat rabbit theme was Cooking implements for the breeders and food names for the offspring. ie: Stewpot and Kettle (breeers), Blood Sausage and Tacos (freezer camp specials), then on ones that I was on the fence about keeping or not I had names like Rotisserie. Granted the one so...

Here is a few pictures of the rabbitry as it sits. The video I took is too long apparently. The Dutch cages are 1/2" x 1/2" besides the 1/2" x 1" bottom and the 1"x2" door. They are leaving them alone and only going after the Flemish kits. I moved Clerise's kits into the metal nesting box as...

No. I would be using a pellet gun. As far as the pictures it will take moment to get those loaded onto the computer.

Do you have specific criteria for retiring a doe/buck?

Most times I start to see them decline around the 5-6 year mark. With larger breeds, like my Flemish, that can start around 4-5 years.

I tried having them enclosed with wire and a door I had to go through to take care of the rabbits and they wove their way through the layers of wire and back out. I do not have a building I can house them in that I could keep cool enough in our area. It gets to 115* here and as I am close to a...

Do you have specific criteria for retiring a doe/buck?

As the does get older they become less fertile. I retire my does when the normal litter size drops to half or less for two litters in a row. Depending on the doe, she either goes to freezer camp or enjoys retirement as just a pet who gets to trim the grass around the garden during the growing...

I sent a message to Nibbles yesterday and was told I should post it in the forums so I can hopefully get some insights from you all. The fallowing is what I had messaged and the things I have tried so far. I will however, be trying to call CDFW again this morning and trying to get a permit again...

Do you have a theme for your rabbitry? If not, can I suggest "Rock Candy"?

When is it time? Older Rabbits

I just came in from checking on him this morning. He has been drinking as the bowl was half empty this morning, when I checked last night before I couldn't stay up anymore he had started to drink some of it. I changed out the fresh greens this morning, taking out the old ones, and he showed...

When is it time? Older Rabbits

Thank you Alaska Satin. I did move him back and have offered him everything I can. I am just waiting to see any improvement. This is the rabbit that was born in my kitchen on Easter Sunday in 2017. I tried moving one of the grow outs over with him as he has always groomed and loved on the kits...

When is it time? Older Rabbits

I know that with all animals when they start to get older they often loose condition and it shows, no matter how much they eat or lounge around. I just find myself wondering when is the right time with our older buns to let them cross naturally or if we should help them. I ask and wonder this as...
