So the other day while I was letting Biały out for a run, I looked up and noticed my Californian buck, Snieg, seems to have his top teeth slightly in a "n" shape. My guess is his wire biting that is causing it, he had fine, even teeth when I got him. He has been chewing his branches well, so what gives??

Doe was born 6/9/10 and they were a breeding pair, so my guess is he is around the same age.

i'd pull him out and give him a good look over.

Hard to tell what the cause is, but if he's a total wire puller then I'd be inclined to think that might be the reason. usually genetic teeth issues show up sooner than 1.5 years of age.

I don't keep rabbits with bad teeth around here. They immediately go as critter food.

I'm not culling him, his teeth were fine, now the ends seem a bit longer. Can you manually file the teeth down with anything around the house?

most wait until it becomes an issue then clip them. You need to be careful going that route as you don't want the rabbit starving either.

you could try giving him some drywall to see if that might get enough wear going on his teeth.

it's your choice of course what you want to do. keep in mind though... what if it is genetic and he throws kits with this issue? do you want to sell rabbits with bad teeth (unless of course you are going to eat the offspring). I've seen what happens with some rabbits in the pet market who have bad teeth. Getting their teeth clipped once a month and then mostly starving for at least half the month.

not something I would wish on any rabbit and ergo why I cull immediately any rabbit with bad teeth.

He eats really well, no waste and is not loosing weight. I'm pretty sure he is chewing on wire over the JFeeder when he runs out, trying to get into the bin. They are meat rabbits for our dinner.

could you hang a piece of wood by the feeder for him? same locale? might encourage him to nibble or haul away on something else. :) Or give him toys to whip around his cage.

He has branches, gonna give him new ones and have been keeping the feeder full. Maybe that will help.

A nice emery board is a great way to shorten teeth, with no fear of 'chipping' or cracking
